Cloister of Sant'Agostino
Adjacent to the church of Sant'Agostino, the cloister of the former convent is a fascinating example of historical architecture, surrounded by a peristyle of marble columns. At one time, all the lunettes of the cloister were decorated with frescoes depicting episodes from the life of Saint Augustine, accompanied by short Latin inscriptions and coats of arms. Today, seven lunettes remain visible on one side and one on the adjacent side, the latter integrated with a window of the Sacristy.
Following the Napoleonic suppression of monastic orders, the entire complex became municipal property. During the 20th century, both the church and the convent suffered significant decay. However, thanks to restoration work that began in the late 1970s, the complex has been completely recovered.
Today, the cloister is home to the "Luigi Russo" Cultural Center and houses the "Giosue Carducci" Municipal Library and the Museum of Sketches (Museo dei Bozzetti), offering a space rich in history and culture for visitors to Pietrasanta.
